Calling All D.C.-Based Nonprofits, Activists, and Techies!
TechSoup and Code for America are co-hosting an idea generator for social good tech projects on March 12, 2014, at 1776 in Washington, D.C.
What’s an idea generator? It’s a facilitated discussion where attendees talk about problems they face in their social-benefit work. Marnie Webb, CEO of Caravan Studios, will lead a participatory exercise that will generate social-good ideas for developers, so the apps and projects they create are actually useful for nonprofits and activists on the ground.
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served! The generator itself will be held from 10:00a-12:00p on March 12. After a lunch break, we’ll be inviting developers and hackers to showcase some of their projects so the nonprofit and activist community can give them feedback on what they’ve built.
Why are we doing this? There’s been a lot of action in recent years around open government data and civic hacking. However, nonprofits have not always been invited to participate in the conversation. We want to change that. Nonprofits and community activists are the ones who’re trying to address social problems on a daily basis. We think they should be informing the tech tools that are being created to solve these social issues.
